Quick help car dead

Quick help car dead
my car wont start, i have a few ideas on what it is but im not too sure. LAst night my car died and at a traffic light, it looked like the battery was dead so i gave it a jump bbut then after driving a block it died again, and i jumoed it like 4 or 5 times just ot get back it kept dieing. before it died the ABS light would go on and then the air bag light would start flashing sometimes, but i think its prolly the alternator?? i know theres like a wire that can be replaced instead of teh alternator itslef could this be it? this morning the car started but it sounded weak and then i opened the hood it was smelling like burning copper adn smoking a litlle so i turned it off. I dont want to bring it to a mechanic and have him rip me off by saying the whole alternator is bad so what u guys think?? ohh and at first i thought it was the battery cuz the punched holes on it read SEP and teh punched number is "0" i think thats expired date right or is it installed date?? PLease help quuick cuz right now its dead at a meter parking adn i dont know what to do

I would take out the battery and check the water level. If its way below normal - I would try getting a new battery. It happened to me and my car is fine now...
