How long do OEM springs last?

I'm replacing the Tokico blues in my 1995 Maxima SE (102,000 miles) with KYB GR-2's. Someone suggested I replace the springs saying they lose their resiliency after 75,000 miles. Suprisingly, the Nissan service manager tells me they don't wear out and that I need to replace them only if they show signs of sagging. Otherwise, he said save my money.

On one hand, it makes sense to replace everything at once since I'm keeping the car for 5-6 more years. Yet, I hate to puuuuhiiissssssss $$$$ away by buying things I don't need.

Anybody with a high-mileage Maxima still using OEM springs?
I'm thinking about H&R's or Apex.

The service manager is right, springs should last the life of the car. That's not to say everyone is happy with the OEM springs though.

Springs should last the life of the car. Especially the coil springs in the Maxima. I've heard of sagging due to worn out leaf springs in conjunction with blown shocks, but not too often a coil spring assembly.

As I write this, I am looking out the window at my friend's 88 Camry. It is the most beat up car in the world, and the rear is sagging somewhat. I guess that car *may* have worn out springs, as I know the struts are completely shot.

Well, back in the days when I was broke or at least broker then I am now. My girl and I used to do it in the back of my 95 GXE. Needless to say, the Right Rear spring/strut went out quickly. But I would never do this in the new ride.

My service tech says they should last the life of the car as well. I've got just over 200K miles on a 97 SE and springs and struts are still fine.

Till you do what I did and cut them to do a cheap but effective lowering job.

200,000 miles!

hey caz41 - that's great! i have a 95 gle with 112,000 and i just wanted to ask you... what has gone bad on your max with so many miles? just curious. thanks & good luck with it.

I had to have the computer replaced under warranty and the A/C compressor replaced under warranty. Other than that nothing. I have gone through a lot of sets of tires and brakes though.. I have never missed a service interval and I have run Moble 1 in all parts of the car since new. The ONLY problem I have is that recently it has taken to starting a little hard in the morning. The techs at the dealer have been unable to diagnose it. Does anyone else here hate Nissan service? I'm thinking of trading for the '02, but my experiences with dealer support are my main source of possible reconsideration. Good luck with yours as well. Maximas are truly fantastic cars. I enjoy mine as much or more than when new.

Dude you if your going to be working out in the rear seats of your Maxima like that Yeah your going to need to get some Koni adjustables therefor your car doesnt bottom out when your laying the pipe. hey I did, good thing the car was lowered not much jumping just the windows fogged out, signs of a workout in the car.

I must say maximas are one of the best cars to make out in, a lot of leg room up front with fully reclining seats and back seat is large too,if you prefer it that way.
