well the 6.6 quote was for a 95 SE, my 97 GXE is a hundred or 200 lbs lighter than the SEs of that year so I kinda use the same number as we are about the same weight.
Motortrend, which is usually very very acurate quotes 6.6 for the 5spd and 7.8 for the auto...
whatever it doesnt matter

I raced a honda 2.5 5speed in my old cefiro which had the VQ25DE hooked to an auto and I could only just pull on him. It was only through his gear changes that I gained a bit of ground. And I found out that his motor was modified. He told me this after he didn't get insurance when he crashed and wrote it off

This is more like it
'95 auto GXE: 7.2-7.4 seconds. Those things are liiight and have nice pull off the line. (you can manually shift you know)
'95 GXE or SE 5spd: Mid 6's. (Pro driver)
I think it's fun to shift, but damn it would get real annoying sometimes. I can tell you I love rollin' back tha seat, crankin the bass, and just cruisin'. Relaxing and pimp. I only regret it when i'm in a racing mood.
When I got my Maxima, I looked several things. Speed. Sound. Looks. It's my personal opinion that the auto is the best comprise if your into other things than racing. Would any of you guys agree ?
Besides take a look at Don. What kind of transmission does he have ? 5spd cayn't touch that.

Everyone is forgetting about all the extra torque multiplication you get with a 5 speed. The 1st gear of a 5 speed 4th gen goes to ~35mph where as the auto goes all the way to 45mph+. 2nd goes to 65mph vs 80mph+ and 3rd goes to 95mph vs 130+mph. As you can see, the automatic has very tall gears where as the 5 speed has short gears. With a 3000lb car and 3.0 V6 liter motor, you need all the torque and torque multiplication as you can get.
An automatic does have lots of torque multiplication due to a torque converter (higher stall speed = harder launch), but the lack of gearing and the parasitic loss of the auto tranny takes it's toll. I'm sure many of you don't know that the automatics are actually powered by hydraulic (fluid) action except when the torque converter is locked in 3rd and 4th at cruise. It's all fluid. This is where the higher percentage of power is lost to the 5 speed. A 5 speed is strictly gear driven.
BTW, who gives a monkey's butt about 0-60. It's all about the 1/4 mile. The way my car sits right now (y-pipe, UDP, intake, B-pipe), I run away from automagics, mods or not. I've ridden in GuidoSST's 95 GLE with a y-pipe and lightweight wheels and the pull was linear thru each gear. With my car, you get thrown back in the seat in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

UHm...I haven't raced a stock 5 spd with my auto, but I keep an even pace with them since the UDP--actually I pull on them between shifts for them because of that loooong throw. I don't see why there is such a big argument. They both have pros and cons! 5 spd allows certain things, auto allows others.
