I drive a 98 auto SE and recently within 6 months had my tranny rebuilt. My car started shifting really hard and had trouble going in reverse after sitting in the sun for a while. I took it in and the said both rear axle shafts were broke and went into the transmission and screwed some stuff up. I heard that if the tranny wasnt put back properly that that would make this occur. Has anyone heard of this? They also quoted me 150- 180 for the rear axle shaft.

REAR axle shaft? Are you sure you drive a Maxima?

 

oh yea the 98 auto SE are rear wheel drive.

I bought both axles new, not remans from Advance Auto for $50 each last week. Took about an hour and a half to do both.
