High Idling

I have been having this problem with my car since I bought it in January. After driving the car for awhile and I come to a stop at a redlight, stop sign, etc. the RPM's will rev up to anywhere between 1000 - 2000 rpm and does NOT drop back down. It will stay steady around there. Usually if I turn the car off and turn it right back on, the RPMs hang around 700. Now, here's the kicker.... It only does this when the weather gets cooler! I have had NO problems from around May until just last week when it started getting cooler in the evenings and night. During the day its fine, but I know just as soon cold weather sets in for good, it will start back doing it during the day also. I have replaced my TPS and I have an after market air intake. Other than that, I have done nothing. I'm not the only member having this problem. Another friend of mine here on the org is going through the same thing. I spoke with him tonight and he said his started again last week too. Sorry so long...... But does anyone have any suggestions?? Oh yeah, gas milage sucks in the winter when this is going on. I'm lucky if I can get 265 miles out of a tank of gas.

Perhaps the throttle cable is too tight? That controls how hard a car can idle.

If you want more gas mileage I suggest you getting a Tornado Chip put in your car. I heard that those things increase gas mileage.

Sorry I don't know much about cars but that's all I can think of.

The throttle cable should be halfway between the moon shape.. make sure it's set as such.

babyangeleyez- when you replaced your tps, did to properly adjust it and set the base idle?

also try switching to synthetic alternator fluid for better mileage

Yeah it was properly adjusted. It only does it when the outside air temp gets cooler. Haven't had a problem all summer.

I have a code for the Swirl Control Valve and one for Map/Baro. But I've had both of them since I got the car.
