Little paint missing

hit a curb last year during a snow and ice storm...as of right now im getting my bumper repainted...but i decided for them not to do the little part on the fender cause i thought i could do it myself and not having money...here is a picture of what it looks like...it has a little rust in it now...just wondering if u guys had any tips to make it look better than it is...if u have any write ups on how to fix things like this it would be great thanks...

Wetsand with 400-800 grit fine sandpaper, lay down paint, then clear.

Sand each layer too.
