HELP! car is shuttering at idle and acceleration

Just very recently, my car started to stutter (the best way to explain it is it feels like the engine wants to move the car). When I have my foot on the brake pedal, i can feel it against my feet like it wants to move. It almost vibrates the whole car. But when the transmission is disengaged, i don't feel or hear anything.

Usually when i'm driving i don't feel a thing either, but sometimes i'll feel it under acceleration. Any idea what is going on?

135K 95 GLE Max
oil changed around 133K
spark plugs changed around 120K (w/ copper ngk's 2 years ago, i'm thinking about replacing them soon)
and i don't have a gas cap...not sure if that is an issue or not.

I'm thinking about bringing it in to the mechanic to get it checked out, but wanted to check w/ you guys first.

Thanks!
Tony

get a gas cap, the fuel and evap are closed systems.

you may need to clean your throttle body and IAC (frequent cause of the symptoms you described)

ignition coils are also a cause of this.

no check engine light, i'll try cleaning the IAC and throttle body

what do you mean by the cap, fuel and evap are closed systems? how is it affected by not having a cap?

So I seemed to have fixed the rough idling. All I did was clean my throttle body and replaced my spark plugs. I think it may have been my plugs that needed replacing more than anything.

I have copper ngk's installed last Sept 05 and have put 15k miles on them. I heard with copper you should replace them once a year. My car is running a lot smoother now as well.

Plugs once a year? Not unless you drive 30k or 40k a year.

even for copper? when i had a honda prelude..everyone recommended 1 year or 12k miles max for ngk copper.

i also noticed some red residue on the spark plugs..not sure if I should be concerned. I'll have to post a pic once I can borrow a camera.

yea man. i didnt believe it either. but i carfaxed it and did a rigorous inspection of everything. she was the original owner - never cleaned it, but did all work at the dealership. has new tires, leather is in decent condition, the exhaust has absolutly no rust or marks on it anywhere. the boots look brand new. even the owners manual has barely been touched. i opened the armrest and saw "lifealert" and AARP and other senior citizen items strewn about. i got an unbelievable deal. car bluebooks for like 6500

oh that is SOO sweeeet, congrats!!! Looks like you finally lucked out!!!! Ya gotta do a nice tune-up on it. Tranny flush & cleaning of magnets would be a very good thing to do @ this mileage!!! You can then do a religous flush every 15K miles from then on and you won't have to worry about your tranny from then on!!

you can also do a auto-rx treatment for the engine and tranny and switch to synthetic Mobil 1 and have an absolutely perfectly running car!!

what is auto RX and what do you mean cleaning magnetS?

how do you define a "nice tune up"? besides plugs...cuz i got some platinum OEM ones sittin in my room i was gonna put on my other GLE. i got a new 300zx TT fuel filter as well i need to install.

im kinda broke right now. the tranny flush scares me. if something goes wrong i dont have another grand or two to drop. ill do it before 50.

I'd hate to de-rail this thread by going completely off-topic discussing your car, but @ this mileage, it would be a sin NOT to drop the trany pan to clean the filter screen & the magnets. A flush won't hurt the tranny if you run Auto-RX thru it prior to doing that. The best time to do it would be @ this mileage, and keep on doing that regularly. A T-tech flush can't hurt the tranny @ this mileage.

http://www.auto-rx.com/pages/applications.htm (interesting read)

Alot of people on here have tried Auto-RX wit good results.

Plugs don't just go bad with mileage, corrosion effect them as well, that's why people replace plugs on cars that have been sitting forever.
