sub

Hey guys I just got offered a free 12inch 600watt sub. doesnt have an amp or anything with it. I know absolutely nothing about sound systems and I was trying to figure out what I will have to do to make this thing work. I have the stock Bose system.

I don't think the Bose HU has pre-outs so youd have to get a deck that does, and you'll definitely need an amp. I'd get a capacitor too if it that sub is 600 watts. Your best bet for info is:

like elemax said, you'll need a deck that has the preouts, but also, the bose speakers wont work with an aftermarket deck so you'll probly have to invest in new speakers as well as the amp, wiring kit, enclosure, and capacitor (if u want). I wanted a new deck in mine so i swapped all the speakers and had to rewire them too. But all that stuff could easily be over $400.

elemax- right but, not quite right... you can alter the bose HU to add inputs-read the stickies in I.C.E. section. Also a good quality mono amp, just powering one sub would not necesarily need a cap.

reece616- not quite either-bose speakers will work with an aftermarket HU, youd need the right harness, most have cited "scotche"(spelling?). most just upgrade speakers because well most aftermarket speakers sound better.

also, I would suggest upgrading the big "3". read the stickies in the ICE forum. lot of helpful info

me and my uncle hooked up my subs to my stock bose system. He built the box, found a decent amp, and just bought a cheap wiring kit for $40 online. btw is that sub 600 watts rms or peak power? If its peak, then your amp shouldn't be too expensive.

A bit more descriptive topic might be helpful.

I was expecting an chicken tender sub with lettuce and tomatoes, and jalapeños.

If you're going to be powering that, check to make sure your alty is up to par. Big 3 is a good idea. IMO, go sealed, not ported. I know its not as loud, but from what I know/have been told, it will hit harder and rebound quicker. Ported sheer for noise.

Sell it. The sub is going to add weight to your back end, cost you money, and give you something more to fix and worry about. So sell it and buy cooler stuff.

TRUE. The bose system is satisfying enough. Ripped all that crap out my trunk a year after.

Is there a way to hook up another bose sub to the bose system already. Maybe one form another Nissan or another car?

Psst, don't worry about all this headache, there's a VERY simple $15 line adapter you can buy that allows you easily add a pre-out to any Bose HU so you can wire up a amp + subs, its late, but I will try to post pictures in the morning as well as have more details and explanations on the hardware

It basically involves tapping into the pairs of the left and right channel signal wires going into the subs in the trunk, but without any modification to those stock wires and the headunit (no i'm not being sarcastic)

so expect a post later

AND, its not crappy quality, my sub setup has already been assessed by many many people and it sounds flawless, and I'm running 900 watts still without my capacitor (never got around to it)

Also, as the others listed the negatives to having the subs in the car, this setup (again, once I get pictures online) allows subs to be either removed, or installed in less than two minutes without messing with the BoseHU, its an Uber mod! So you can have a normal trunk when you want
