Car wont start again...
okay, so about a month ago i installed a new starter into my 97 i30... worked perfectly after that, then about two weeks ago i went to try and start my car and it wouldnt start.. no noise or nothing.. i opened up the hood to see if there was anything visible i can fix, but i saw nothing closed the hood and the car started...
now it doesnt start at random times and i have to open and close the hood in order for it to start... i think something about the vibration makes something work, but does anyone have ANY idea as to what might be affecte by the slamming of the trunk? maybe the wires connecting my starter to my battery?
im lost...

Check the battery connections to see if they are corroded at all or loose. If your starter isnt making any noise its not getting power. Check that and if your battery is just dead it may be an alternator as well

my battery is brand new... my electric stuff works perfectly... the batt connections look clean... is there anthing i should look for while getting to my starter? and once there, what should i do to make sure its not the connections?

What happens when you turn the key? Do all the idiot lights come on but no crank? And if you keep trying eventually it will engage? That's what I've been dealing with. I replaced the starter, battery (both needed it), ignition switch, and added a ground wire. Replacing the battery helped for a couple of weeks, but then it came back. Last weekend I used contact cleaner on the starter-related relays, and it's started every time since then, but it's too soon to tell.

Hey, I can't create threads but I'm going to ask my question here because I'm having a problem starting my car and I'm sure the knowledgeable folks here will be kind enough to help me out...
I have a 1997 Nissan Maxima GLE with 81,000 miles that I bought 2 years ago. No problems with it so far...this morning I drove it to a meeting, drove it back home with no problem. Before I shut the car off, I noticed that the windows were rolling up and down slower than usual...anyway I shut it off, ran back in my house, came back out and tried to start it up again. The car made a series of spattering noises under the hood but no start, it seemed like it just died. I tried to start it again and the same thing kept happening...anyway I ran a few errands, came back after a few hours, and tried to start it again...this time it started, but it was a "crappy start" so to speak, and my radio wouldn't turn on (it usually turns on with the car), and the display on the my clock was very dim. Windows were still rolling up and down very slow as well.
Anyway, I'm guessing that this is a dead alternator I'm dealing with, am I right? I sthere a way to see if it's not the battery? A while ago a mechanic told me I had oil leaking on to my alternator, but that it wasn't vital to change it at that point, do you think that could be the culprit? How much should I expect to pay for this job so I don't get ripped off?
Thanks fellas, I didn't want to hijack someone elses thread, and I did a search before I posted here, I didn't know what else to do....my trusted mechanic is in florida on vacation =[ =[ so I had no choice.
