Help! With weird engine code light
Help! With weird engine code light
I searched through the fault code thread, but didn't find what I was looking for, unless I missed it.
At any rate, my car is a 97 Nissan Maxima SE, 5-speed, 161k on it.
I have had my check engine light on for a while now. Haven't noticed any real decrease in MPG or anything running all that weird, so I didn't worry about it too much.
Went to Autozone today and got my code checked out and here is what it reads:
Park Neutral Position (PNP) switch fault
Probable Causes:
1-Open or short circuit condition
2_Failed PNP switch
Any suggestions on what to look for or how to correct the problem?
It doesn't sound that serious to me. But I'd like my check engine light turned off.

See Sig............ You can get it at VQ35DE.com.........
HAHAHA, I had this long response typed up about checking and re-setting the nuetral position on the inhibitor switch, lol, silly me, you're stick.........
Yeah that code won't affect any engine control, it is more than likely a fault with the actual sensor on the trans. If you haven't changed your gear oil recently (or at the last trannsmission rebuild
) Pull the r/n switch to change your gear oil, clean the copper contacts for the switch both on the big round plastic part and use needle nose to reach inside tranny and pull that part out and clean those also. Very good chance it's all covered in nastiness, you can aalways test with an ohmmeter before filling up with fluid in case for some odd reason you do need the sensor.

hahaha, don't do that! I had a long **** day, but yeah, I agree, pre-cat's FTL, but why not just pick up some a32 manifolds and y-pipe as opposed to headers, no dyno has yet to prove either is better...............
