Inspection time, need opinions...

Well it's that time of year again, went for the NYS inspection for my max. Passed safety, but lo and behold emissions wasn't a go. Of course I know why, I installed stone racing headers and the cattman catback at the beginning of the year. However, unless I'm a fool, I know a majority of members here have similar setups. Any recommendations on what I should do?

And yeah someone did mention an alternative to me, lol, but given my luck I might get caught (if it is possible to get caught) having a mechanic do such a thing...and no I'm not condoning illegal activities on the org.

What cat converter to you have?

How close (or far) were you from passing the tail sniffer test? Need more info.......

I suggest a full tune up, then only go to places that offer "Pass or don't pay". Also, make sure you drive you car around for 20 minutes or so before you pull up so everything is thoroughly warmed up.

If you're getting nabbed on teh visual, then just keep trying different "pass or don't pay" shops until one overlooks your mods. Throw enough darts at the dartboard, you're eventually going to get a bullseye.

Sound advice from The Wizard! Tn is like that too ... and I have a mate with a modded 240 and he had to do that same thing. He got it passed, but it took some looking around.

I also don't condone illegal activity either ... but if someone isn't looking, well

what year is your car? since all 4th gens are OBD2, and you are posting in the 4th gen forum, im pretty sure it's OBD2, and im guessing you are failing for a check engine light being on. In NY if it's OBD2, you dont have to take a sniffer test, they simply plug into the diag port and see if there are codes present. fix the problem, clear your codes, and go back through inspection. But you need to know the reasons you failed, and not just assume its because of the headers/catback
