Starting Problems
okay, i've posted a thread on this before but i couldnt find it so i could update it...
so i replaced my starter a couple of months ago and it was working perfectly... started like a charm... but now when i go to start my car sometimes it will not start at all... it wont turn or anything... so what i found that fixes it is opening the hood and closing it, i think its something to do with the slamming of the hood that makes it start again...
so let me describe exactly what happens... when i go to turn the car on it makes NO noise, just like when my starter was out... sometimes it sounds like the starter is going to turn but then it sounds like it shorts and it wont turn anymore... i think it may be a electrical problem between the battery and the starter, like a bad connection or something... my battery is new and works perfect all my electrical stuff works fine...
i just need some advice as to what to look for... or what may be causing this...

check your Ignition Switch.

Check your electrical connections to the starter and grounds if you haven't already. If everything looks fine, use a multimeter to check voltage coming from the ignition switch to the solendoid switch (it's the small wire if I recall correctly).
If you get voltage when someone puts the ignition switch in start, then you have a defective starter. If not, then it's the ignition switch, Anti-Theft system or any of the associated fuses and relays. If you have the FSM, it gives you the exact fuses and relays to test.

okay so i finally got to taking everything out and checking to see if anything visible is wrong with my starter... i dont have one of those voltage checking things so i have to wait til next weekend to do that, however i did notice something odd, some wires were melted by the heat of the air intake stuff... i dont know if this is normal, but i took some pictures (i know my engine stuff is dirty) my car is staring fine now, but it usually does...its just those random times when it acts up... can anyone let me know a little more about what may be going on and if these wires have anything to do with it? thanks...

I had the same problem, traced to the starter relay wiring, which is under the hood r/s. try swapping the starter relay with the wiper relay (same relay) and see if it makes a difference for you.
i am not sure which is the relay for the starter OR the wiper... and i dont know how to swap them either.. is this hard to do? my car is stranded in a cvs parking lot right now... its frustrating, sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesnt...
