Front shock install question

Guys I haven't done a set of fronts in about 6 years so help me out. I was to lazy to find the torque wrench and installed the top nut by guestimation. Now both shocks seem like they have either too much travel or the upper mount is hitting and releasing the inside of the tower. Im gonna go dig up my torque wrench and make sure the top not is torqued properly, in the meantime if anyone else can think of anything I may have done wrong it would be greatly appreciated. Its a 98 btw, KYB GR-2's with the stock springs. Thanks in advance.

Maybe bad strut mounts? I dunno. I have GR-2s...but with Eibach Pros and all new mounts/ bearings and boots. I didn't use a torque wrench, just spring compressor and impacted on until nut stopped..then a 'touch' past just for sakes of tightness, double checked on car once installed and on the ground.

So you mounted and torqued the top nut with the springs compressed? Maybe mine aren't torqued enough then...I would normally just sort this myself but my back hurts so bad right now from working on this thing I can barely walk. I'm getting old.

Yes. I torqued it all down while in the compressor. The double checked them once installed and car was on the ground.

Fell your pain (literally) about your back. I am 30 and working on cars for 15 years has taken its toll. (Not to mention skateboarding, motocross, and car accidents in between.)
