alternator ground cable

the ground cable by the alternator, does it run all the way across the car to the relay boxes on the drivers side? my buddies 4.75 gen had melted the wire loom on that wire and we are currently diagnoising what happened. he was cranking the car for a long time to get it started, when smoke came from under the hood, then the car stopped cranking, and there was just clicking when the key went on.

That sounds really really bad - sorry to hear it -

I would assume the fuse would protect the whole circuit, but obviously it did not, i am not sure about the wiring diagram but the FSM would be the best bet

PS: what the heck is a 4.75 gen ??? i mean i can see how a 95/96 can be called a 4th and 97-99 a 4.5 gen are we starting to brake down generations to their minute differences ?

so 95/96 is 4th
97-98 is 4.5th
and 99 is as 4.75 gen ?

i could deal with that - thats cool lol

VQ35 in an A32 is commonly referred to as either the 4.5 gen (as the major difference between 5th and 5.5 gen maximas was the VQ35), or an A32B (same thing as above, just using chasses codes).

Seen this 4.75 used a bit around here, never saw what exactly for though...maybe for a full drivetrain swap from an A33B.
