need a new battery
replacing my battery tommorrow and im debating if its worth spending $140 on an optima red top or should i just go with an interstate battery for like $80.. i do have subs but they are only running at like 300 watts and a few lights that are only in use when responding to fire or ems calls so im just not sure if it's worth it.. any suggestions?

Diehard gold FTW
I've had the same one in my MR2 for over 5 years now. Thats with a couple of complete drains (alarm), and a dead alternator a couple of times, where I drove the car on battery power till it died. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, was able to start it up and drive for a few more minutes. I did that about half a dozen times. That was 2 years ago, and the battery is still going strong. I swear I gonna hold a funeral when this thing finally dies lol.

actually..... I just remembered my Max also has a Diehard. It's got a Weatherhandler, which is just shy of a Gold I think. I was stoked when I saw it after poping the hood when I was looking at the car.

thats why im not sure which one to get...the optima has i believe 800 cca while the interstate has 700 cca but thats about the only difference besides the construction of the battery that i can see (then again i could be wrong), i guess my real question is what are the differences performance wise of the two batteries

sry made a mistake just looked it up...optima has 910 cranking amps and 720 cold cranking amps while the interstate has 690 cranking amps and 550 cold cranking amps..so besides these numbers are there any other differences?

Optima batteries were made by a Swedish company, Gylling, until August 2000, when Johnson Controls acquired the company. Interstate is a marketing company, and does not make batteries. Interstate batteries have been made by Johnson Controls since 1962. Most Sears DieHard batteries are made by Johnson Controls. If Sears sells a spiral cell battery now, chances are it is a rebadged Optima (made by Johnson Controls). ACDelco batteries are made by Johnson Controls. Wal-Mart batteries are made by Johnson Controls. For a while, some major retailer (maybe it was Sears) sold a rebadged Exide Orbital spiral cell AGM battery as its house brand, but I have not seen an ad for that model recently, so either I am not reading the right ads or it has been taken off the market.
If you want a flooded lead acid battery, get a Deka; it is a better-spec'ed battery than any of the many Johnson Controls batteries, and is competitively priced. Deka batteries are also sold by Carquest under the Carquest brand.

so basically the point is that all batteries, regardless of price, are basically the same because they all come from johnson controls? except for deka, of course, which i have never seen. ive seen carquest, which is deka from what i understand, but ive heard MANY negative things about carquest batteries.

thanks for the replies guys..a buddy of mine had a spare battery which i took this morning to try to start my car (cause it wouldnt start last night when i went to leave work) but it still just sits there and strains and wont crank..so i had it towed to my mechanic and hes gonna take a look at it so just waiting for the call from him to tell me what the damage is

Newest Development:
Just got a call from my mechanic and he put a new started in so he says its cranking good however it wont start. He says that he thinks it may be something with the timing chain. Anyone experience this before?

how would the timing chain cause it to not start? unless it has been removed and reinstalled incorrectly. if that was the case though, a lot more things would be going wrong besides starting. this guy sounds like an idiot.
