The 98 Se looks a whole lot cleaner than the 99.

IMHO 98's were the best year of max's made out of the 4th gens. 99's have issues with coil packs and what not. Go sterling mist 98's! Plus the 98 has leather... Tho i must say... $5k for a max with 160+k? Sounds a tad high to me...

se-l. i didn't know they made it without leather though. the reason i say se-l is 1) status 2) lower miles 3) the se has been modded (clear lenses & diy red/clears), no telling what young punk owned it. of course none of these are great reasons, have them checked out by a mechanic or at least do a test drive.

It definitely is cleaner, but runs the chance of being half-@$$ed modded...
I trust the guy with teh 99sel much more... he works @ the nissan corporate office in nashville. as the 98se is from a dealer... who knows who owned it before

The leather is pretty much the biggest reason I think I'm leaning towards it.
lenses/tails are awesome, but I'll likely change them anyways lol
b/c I like diy

I think I'll call the dealer sellin the max and see if they'll provide a carfax and mechanical test... if so and it doesn't feel janky...
I'll likely go with the 98se.

Thanks for everyone's opinions!
more are appreciated

The 98 is nicer but has been moded and has high miles. Check with a mechanic to make sure some one didnt mess it up. Leather ftw. If there are problems with the 98 go with the 99 or keep searching

98 over the 99

plus look at the 98. it has clear corners. to me that means that the former owner was probably a maxima fanatic like the rest of us on this forum. people like that tend to put a bit more money into their car; not to mention using higher quality parts, running premium gas, etc.
and its got leather...

Leather Vs. Cloth man. I would go with the leather one. Is $5,000 not kinda pricey for a '98 though?

GXE-No Tail(spoiler),no leather seats, no sunroof(no sure about this one).
SE-Has a tail and sunroof
GLE-has all of the above and leather seats which is the luxury edition.

GLE and GXE have black guage faces. SE are white. that is a surefire way to tell right there.

as far as sunroofs and spoilers go, the original purchaser of the car at the dealership can add that stuff to GXEs or GLEs. the SEs usually have it standard.
GLEs DO NOT come with sunroofs, nor do GXEs.
you can tell if a spoiler was factory added on a GLE because it will not only have the rear window center brake light, but also the brake light on the spoiler itself (two rear central braking lights).

leather is standard in GLEs. SEs can have leather.
ive never seen a GXE with leather.

this is getting complicated. just put up pictures of the interior and exterior. it will be easier to tell then.

or run the VIN...............
