AXLE CHANGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay i am pissed off right now because i just replaced the drivers side and passenger side axles on my friends 96 automatic maxima.

everything went smoothly, but we tried to drive the car out of the garage in reverse and it wouldn't move. it's like the car is in permanent neutral. when we give it gas the car doesnt move. THE CAR ROLLS ALL OVER THE PLACE IN PARK!!!!!!! we dont know whats going on. i thought i replaced the correctly. does it matter which axles goes in first? i dont know whats going on...WHATS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I NEED HELP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I changed the clutch on 2 of my maximas you usually have to give the axle a push into the hub until it locks in. That might be the problem. I always put the driverside axle first and then passenger, but i dont think it matters.

when i did my 5 speed swap.. i had a similar problem.. i could nto for teh life of me get the drivers side axle inn when the passenger was installed.. so it looked like i was in but it still needed like another 1 inch to go.. i removed the passenger side and the drivers went right in...

thanks for the help guys. we re inserted the driver side axle, and we notice when we adjust the bottom mount of the coilover suspension like pull it in or out and tighten it the hub spins freely. anyone ever hear of this? almost like the cv joint is coming lose?

I recently replaced mine, and just remember that I had to really press on the driver side to get it to lock in place.

Are you saying that the hub is spinning but the axle is not? Are these new axles or old axles with new boots?

they are autozone axles, the hub spun with the axle, but when we twisted the hub outward with the suspension connected, it seemed like the cv joint was disconnected inside the boot. i don't know its one of the weirdest things ive seen with a maxima before.

not really understanding what you mean on that last post.

i work at pepboys in the shop, and our driver side axles 90% of the time never work on maximas.

best bet, im not sure what list price is, but i went through autopart international and i can get axles for 50 bucks (cost price) with no core charge. brand new non-remans. thats what i just did for my girl's 96.

You probably just need to back off on that adjuster **** a tiny bit more.
