300ZX TT ENGINE CONVERSION

Okay, so I've decided that sometime in the future, I plan on swapping out my 150k stock engine with the engine of a 300ZX with TT.

Have you guys ever seen this conversion?

I doubt anyone has done that because the 300ZX is RWD, hence the engine is mounted longitudinally opposed to the Maxima which is FWD and the engine is mounted horizontally.

I dont think it can be done easily. I have never seen that. That engine is made to fit longitudinally and I think it's way too wide to fit in the Max engine bay mounted transversly. I dont think any transmission will work with it mounted transversly and you are going to need custom axles and a lot of other custom work.

Edit: If you were going to do it, it would probably be easier to make the Max RWD instead of trying to get everything to work with the TT motor sideways.

not worth the time and money, even if you made it possible to work, which it is not, for all the reasons given above.

actually you would be better off if you bought the new VR38DETT Bi-turbo V6 and swap in an AWD setup into the car, cause that all bolts up and matches perfectly in a car (the GT-R that is)

How many HP is the VR38DETT Bi-Turbo?

I'm looking to get at least 400hp by the time i'm done, so a good 300hp+ engine that wouldn't decimate my bank account would be nice.

Personally...this kind of modding should only be done when spending $4g's on your car isn't a problem. If it is going to 'decimate' your bank account...do other mods. That is just plain irresponsible to mod a car when the result will be you being absolutely broke financially. Think ahead man...it's just a car in the end. This is why I do simple mods.

It could be done because i no someone that has done this before in 3rd gen. with a single turbo though. He came out with 700hp to the front wheels. It takes a lot of modification to do.

That's what they said about the VQ30DET.

right now it stands at 470 hp for its release here, but there will be a spec V version around 2010 with 540 hp.

getting 400+ whp on a VQ30DE (or DEK) is not impossible, do all the bolt ons (everything about 6K there), Build the engine up (2K), supercharge the thing to 15 psi (5K) and there you go. I will be running 13 psi on mine, I have all the bolt ons (just need camshafts now), I'm working on building up the engine know (fuel system and stronger internals). then I'll supercharge.

You're barking up the wrong tree with all this talk of engine swaps of this nature. If you have 3-4k to spend, you can install a BOLT-ON supercharger and break 300hp. There's even instructions on VQpower.com on how to do it. Easy as baking a cake, just follow the recipe..

Well since its not even been released yet, nowhere. Not to mention that even once it is the engine alone will be over $5k used. Do yourself a favor, and READ THE STICKIES!
Then read the turbo\SC forum and learn. You can get 400hp with your VQ30 without too much problem.
Most are running in the 350 range, with is plenty to get started.

This is just a bad idea all around. If you wanna waste time and your money then do it. If you wanna save some $$ but still have that extra kick buy a 3.5 liter engine and put a big A$$ turbo on it.

Lol you'd have a better shot at making a Gm northstar engine or a honda engine fit... both of which would require quite a bit of work... although something about a northstar powered maxima is pretty cool.

Hmmm I am getting ideas

By this post alone I have a feeling that you know absolutely NOTHING about swaps, please do yourself a favor and start slow..unless you pay someone else to do it, in which case it will be rape...If it can be done (which it always can) expect to pay well over 10K for an internally stock VG swapped, probably with a single turbo as you won't be able to fit the turbo...add modifications and the price goes up and up...
