clank-clunk from under armrest area over bumps?!

sometimes when i go over a hard bump, I hear a sound that can best be described as a marble being shaken up in a plastic bottle. It sounds like it's coming from under the armrest/shifter area, but i am not 100% sure. I was under the car today, and everything with my exhaust seems fine. I could not replicate the noise by shaking anything under the car. I have new control arms and stabilizer links/bushings. has anybody ever noticed anything like this before? It sounds like something's going to fly off and the person driving behind me.

check heat shields.

I had something similar. It turned out to be my o2 sensor hitting the heat shield. I just bent it out of the way a bit.

Is there something in your armrest compartment? Otherwise I'd have to agree with a heat sheild.

nope, nothing in the compartment. I cleaned it out and the noise still existed.

i had a similar problem.. the whole time it was the exhaust hanger, rust ate away the mount, and the hanger was just having fun smacking everything under the car over speed humps, or any humps for that matter

thanks for all of the responses. i'll look at that cat hanger.. it was replaced recently, but i guess since I have an aftermarket Y, it didn't really fit properly.. the guys at the shop somehow made it fit though going to check it out and also my shields. thanks all!
