Starter vs. Crankshaft Position Sensor

Starter vs. Crankshaft Position Sensor
I've got a 95 GLE.
Has anybody ever received the 0407 code from their ECU?
If it IS the crankshaft position sensor and NOT the starter, is this part easy to replace? Have any of you replaced this part? How do I tell if it's the CPS and not the starter?
Thank you.

Re: Starter vs. Crankshaft Position Sensor
CPS is located where the motor and transmission meet, on the side facing the radiator. It a black things with a three wire harness connected to it, held in by a 10mm bolt.
The Chiltons book has a good discription on how to test it, Their ~$15.00 at most auto part stores.

They checked the car out and said that the ECU has problems. They didn't seem to think it was the crankshafot position sensor. They told me that the car was doing some weird stuff and that I should take it to the dealer. Now I don't know what to do. I'm afraid the dealer will charge me up the yin yang just to look at the friggin' thing.
Has anybody had problems with the ECU or ever had to have it fixed or replaced?

BTW the CPS is really easy to change, all you need to do is unplug it from the harness and then remove 1 10mm bolt, after that do the reverse to install.
