what is happening

Okay guys...so i live in florida, and i admit that the temp in florida has really dropped in the past 3 weeks.at nights(11pm) or in morning (4am) when i go to drive out,i start the car, turns over and everything and just turns off by itself.Start the car again, same thing happens(goes down to 500rpm and shuts off),.....what i have to do is start it and rev it(to atleast 3000 rpm) and then it idles little beneath 1000 and then everything is fine.....drive to my destination and safely come back. This has been happening since the temp slightly dropped, but should that slight drop cause all this crack-licking behavior.?

Pretty much.

Mine does the same thing, but it's probably because I ripped out that FIC crap about a year ago.

Some cars with automatic transmissions also had this problem when cold.

The service bulletin stated "RE4F04A Automatic Transmission - Differential Pinion Shaft Worn"

The reference # is NTB96-007

Something is a little wrong....I live in Nebraska at it hasnt reached more then 65 during the day in about a month and Im having 0 cold start problems....Even at night when it is about 29-30 degrees.

Check to make sure your IACV is lifting the throttle plate slightly to allow more air to come in....

ohh,ok.will check and see.but what if it has only started since the temp change......its funny how you live in a state where it gets colder and you dont experience it,but then again, maybe your car is use to it(i guess)mwhile my car is a florida car.

Throttle in our cars is completely mechanical, the IACV can't adjust it at all. There's a seperate port into the UIM for the IACV.

Unless you're talking about the FIC?

i live in canada and last year a similar issue was happening to my car - it would start but idle badly and wobble and die.

just tap the gas pedal slightly and she will catch on and fire up...this is a common issue with these cars so dont be scared you will not get stranded in your +15C weather ahahahaa here it gets down to - 30 (or -40 with wind)....something is just worn our inside the car and when its colder it hardens up and doesnt let the fule by easily or something like that

PS: we'll see how the maxie reacts to all the "enhancements" this winter

I have completely forgot what the little black thing on the side of the throttle body is called...

My 97 did that and it was auto. I cleaned the IAC valve and throttle body and it started every time.
