Alright well I have a 97 se maxima (auto) and the transmission went out a couple weeks ago so i took it to the local "Nissan" dealership to have it replaced then i got the car back last Tuesday i went and started it up, it was a little weak but didnt think much of it. Then friday night i drove it around and everything started to get weak( headlights, all electronics) so i pulled over and it died. The next day i went to give it a jump start and it started right up then the alternator started smoking and glowing red so i shut the car off and then flames started coming out of my alternator. Do you think the alternator just went bad or did the shop mess something up?

 

If you read down a couple threads, this just happened to me. You need a new alt...
