2008 Hesitates

Title is wrong, can't change it. This is about a 1998!

A friend has a 1998 Maxima that hesitates when accelerating between 30 to 45 mph, fast or slow acceleration, and usually when the engine is hot. It is worse on hot days then cold.

Car has 180K miles, no upgrades, original injectors and knock sensor, as far as we know.

Where should we be looking for a solution?

Describe hesitates...

Does is seem like cylinders are missing? Maybe off balance and vibrating?
Does the engine just bog down?
Does it really just hesitate, or stutter in a way?

Auto or 5spd?

are you sure it's only 30-45? Does it do the same thing in different gears in that speed range?

It could also be the MAF...good catch. Try cleaning your TB, IACV, and MAF.

AutoZone, pull codes then re-post the codes ... or better yet, check the Stickies for the codes.

Other than that .... clean the MAF, TB, and IACV .... make sure you don't have a vacume line off.

Cheers!

Thanks!

Thanks guys. I read through all the stickies. He is going to change the plugs anyway. If that doesn't help, then we'll clean the MAF, go after the TB, etc.

I told him to check for codes before he does anything.

uhh no.

That just retards the timing, resulting in lost power, not hesitation.
