excessive play in steering wheel***
when i turn my steering wheel about 2 inches to the left or right my steering wheel moves but my wheels dont. I took it to my local mechanic and he says that the rack and pinion bushings need to be replaced... i dont know if he is right or not..do you guys know what could cause this and how i could go about fixing it

2 inches is alot, but also check your ball joints. happened to me like that (but I only had about 1 inch of play) and I assumed it was the rack. put your front on jacks and grab ther wheels and wiggle them. If they have alot of play then its a good chance your ball joints are just worn right out.
