How do I know timing chain is bad or not?

Hi.

The engine(131k) sound is getting louder with a starting problem, so I doubt a timing chain problem. How do you know the chain is bad or not?

Thanks.

What 'engine sound'?

If you have 'strange' sounds on cold starts, most likely your timing chain tensioner, assuming it's either original or of the old style.

Is, it some kind of a rattling noise to it. If, so what side is it coming from. I would say it's your tensioniers. If it's the timming chain I am sure when ever you rev the engine the noise will get louder than come back to it's normal idel speed with the noise at idel speed.

a bad timing chain show extensive signs of wear or in two pieces, other than that should be good to go on another 113k
