Tire Size

I have a 97 Maxima SE, I know my tire size is 215-55-16. I also know that this tire size is not common. I was wondering if you guys know what the best subsitute tire size is?

225/50/16 or 205/60/16

each will be within 3% so your speedo won't be out.
check here for the calculator.

I just shopped all season tires for my 98 SE. The stock size 215-55-16 was not difficult to find at all. Tirerack.com, Firestone, Discount tire and Just tires all carried tires in this size. If you have to wait a day or two to get the stock size it is worth it.

Yeah, but I like the lower profile and wider tire.

98 SE with Tokico illumina springs and shocks. 2001 stock 5-spoke wheels.

I've tried the 225/50/16 RE950's from Bridgestone and found that they have too little sidewall for my tastes. Ok handling but they bang over bumps. Not good for commuting.

I've tried the 215/55/16 D40M2's from Dunlop and really *not* liked these tires in this size. Bad wear, little grip, poor handling. Bah!

I'm on my second set of 225/55/16s ME550's from AVON. I've run about 60-70k on these tires. They're cheap (still $90-ish/tire). They have decent handling in wet and dry. Quiet. Manageable in snow. Decent wear (about 30-35k per set which is 10K more than the others). Would buy again.

I would recommend Avon's too. Fuzion tires are good value for the money otherwise. Run M500 on my maxima and fuzion ZRI on my datsun

if I had to guess use 225/50/16 and your speedo should stay fine but use a calculator to get the right results!
