the night that it happened...i had ran the car pretty hard...because i was at a party and someone threw a bottle at my friends car because we kicked him out of the party...so as he sped off...he deciced to throw a bottle at my boy chris's 99 civic...i was sitting in my car right behind the bottle thrower and then chris hopped in my car and i chased the dude down...maybe that had something to do with it?

Not temporary. TERMINAL. It does sound like a bearing is bad though and no, it is not going to get better.
Not sure which bearing it is and it's not terribly critical to know which one. I believe a teardown is how it gets fixed, no matter which one it is anyway.
It might run like that for a month, maybe a couple if it is babied. Could be a week or the next time you drive it.
Got any idea why the chk. eng. light is on? It might offer a clue as to what made a 119K engine go south like that. That you have to add oil that often is also a clue and it sounds like knowledge of engine maintenance may not be a familiar topic in this case.
I would start (now) looking into replacement engines from reputable sources and stay on this board to get information about the routine maintenance the new/replacement engine will require. The owners manual has some basic info, and you'll have good questions to ask after you read it.
As for fixing or not, the engine cost to replace -vs- the repair cost will tell you which way to go....however keep in mind that there's risk in either chioce with a used replacement engine and LOTS of labor costs involved in either decision.
Laboe costs will be high (8-14 hrs?), no matter what you do here.
I would first figure out if I liked the car enough to keep it and then see if I have the funds for a remanufactured engine (with warranty). If not, I would seek out the lowest mileage junked Maxima or I30 I could find for the lowest price (nearby) and have a reputable shop replace it. (Even then....there's no promise that it had been well taken care of.)
Beware that if you decide to sell the car, you will take a severe financial hit because of the condition of the engine.
Sorry to "hear" about your issue. Good luck with that...
