Need Opinions On LED Tails

As many of you know I have been designing an LED tail light kit for the 97-99.

This was the design I am currently working on, but I am not sure it is going to work because of the pattern in the OEM lens. I won't be 100% sure for a few days, but I think I am going to have to redesign them. I know when I started a lot of people said I should stick with a "Kevlo Style" design (feel free to say "I told you so"). My question is; should I have to redesign them, would you rather see a "Kevlo Style" or a redesigned no-line style?

i still say that the kevlo would sell better . It wouldnt be too bad to have both designs.

I prefer the kevlo style myself. I think the lines look nice on the back of the car.

I say Kevlo style. I have LED tails on my car and I love the look of 3 lines of LEDs in the back.

I liked the blue one but, it's looking like it's part of the top light.
I am sure the blue is intended for the reverse light if,it's so I really like it.

yeah the white (blue) one is the reverse light. no problems there, it's just the running/brake light thats causing a problem.

Are the lower inners going to be reverse and lower outer signals?

The only problem I see with you layout would be since there are so many LEDs, it will just look like one really bright bulb once its mounted behine the lense/diffuser.

I would personally have fewer lines to show off the fact that they're indeed LEDs.

thats the problem up top, won't be as much of a problem on the bottom because the difuser pattern is different. the lowers are down the line anyway since most people were more interested in just the uppers.

is there a way to see what your style looks like with a red diffuser placed on top? I'm sure that everyone know what kevlo's look like, I'm just concerned with the edges of your style. Might be too choppy, but then again, the diffuser might smooth things out.

it did look kind of choppy, but i planned on redesigning it. i blew though my second power supply (getting a refund this time) so no pics. honestly, they didn't look good but i'm not going to give up on them until i get the boards seated properly. unfortunately this will be delayed again. i have already designed kevlo style boards, so either way i'll get them going before christmas hopefully.

As I had said before...demand was for Kevlo style. I know you wanted something different but I had a feeling people would still want the kevlo's. I've still yet to get them in my tails, being busy with finals and all but this is what mine came out to be.

No turns or reverse for me tho. I say go back and go with the Kevlo style. I'm sure you might be able to sell off the ones you just made too.

the ones i made served their purpose which was to test my design skills, but i only prototyped 1 side so i can't really sell them. i will probably just go straight to production of the 2nd design since it is a lot simpler.

you're tails look great cdg, very similar to the new design i made.

what i'm thinking is i'll do the kevlo style for the 97-99, and do something like my original design for the 95-96 since they have crystal lens.

I like 'em. I want a full set.

However they are obviously way pricey, plus it would require that the rest of the indicators are converted to LED to match.

Also white LEDs > superwhite/bluish LEDs for the reverse light IMO...

that makes them even pricier. I still wonder if people would actually pay the cost for these. I would make them pretty pricey if I decided to sell. Just like before to me. Everyone says yeah I want some then will most likely back out on the deals. I have one person who wants some and i'm doing a half now/half after payment so I won't make them and have him back out on it. Might be the best way to go about selling them IMO.

Kevlo... you're famous!

Morpheus... the price is actually going down as i get further into it. i'm hoping the price of the brake kit (boards, harness, power supply) will be between around $300. reverse lights and signals will be optional, though most in the past have done without them. the power supply will be set up for all the boards so it will be expandable. as for the white lights, there are no white superfluxes so i have to use a knock off (for lack of a better word, they are brighter and more exspensive). color choices are limited to cool-white (bluish) and warm-white (yellowish).

cdg... don't do too many, i like money too. i'm already thousands into this because i am doing it on a production level. hopefully if i build it they will come.

Haha no worries man. I don't have time to take on too many projects at this point. I haven't advertised making them either so I don't expect people to really ask me. Plus I'm not planning on doing the turn signals and all right now so thats another reason I don't expect many people. But I'm hoping someone wants some cause I could use some cash ha.

I know, and that's not at all a bad price from your end. Unfortunately I have a hard time spending a few hundy on beauties I will never myself behold.

Also, if you get the tails but not the signals/reverse lights it won't match up. I don't like things that are done half-assed so I would want to go for the whole nine yards, which, of course, drives up the price even more.

Dammit, this is why I stick to suspension mods.

I don't think too many people have the turn signals and reverse lights done actually. I don't think it looks bad to have regular turn bulbs. But I think that's all personal preference.

i can dig it. no mod is for everybody. i kind of feel the way you do about the turns/reverse, but most people who have done this mod in the past have done without it.

2themax... i would guesstimate the price of each upgrade around $50. when i started the project there was much more interest in the brake light boards than anything else. therefore, i kind of put the other boards on the back burner. i will get back to work on them after i have a few kits made.
