95/96 Red/Clears

Is it the same process as the 97-99? Using a heat gun, taking off the lens, and replacing the amber? Thanks.

No. You'll have to find some Super Rare 95/96 Clear/Clears and paint the section red to match. Its pretty tricky cause it needs to match.

or, find a set of David L's clears and purchase them used. They go for about $250-$300

David L was the guy that made them. He bought clear/clears from overseas when you were actually aloud to buy them. He would tear them open and paint the red perfect to match the inners. I got one of his last sets and I set up that run. He mad 10 his last batch.

The other option would be the diamond red/clears that CE came out with just before going under (CM is back by the way). I know most people work those poor lights over but I actually like them. I don't think CM is selling them but maybe they pop up in the for sale forum. ?

I have a set of clear APC outers that I bought 5 years ago and painted myself. I also have a virgin set of all clear APCs sitting in the garage. I also have a set of CE's diamond red/clears. I'm a hoard.

The oven, just like the headlights. These are previous pics before I opened them. I have them open at this point. If they sell, Ill sell them already open with the transparent apple red paint so is all the person would need to do is mask it off, paint, and put them in the oven for about 15 minutes to seal back up.

I guess I should put these up in the for sale section since Im getting some interests.

I put them in for about 10-15 minutes at 250 degrees. Same as the headlights if you want to AE your headlights. That is the same process when putting them back together too. I used VQpower.com's how to section to get the info. The goo should be good enough when putting them back together. You shouldnt need to buy any.

Is it because the amber is on the outside? Is that why it's not possible?

(I have a 96 as well, and would like an easy/cheap way to clear the ambers)

obviously its been tried already otherwise it'd be just as common as the 97+ tailights. cheap+easy+looks doesnt happen with 95/96 taillights. the vinyl method just doesnt look good. cheesy.

the red-out method is the $20 alternative to 250-300 tails that are rare to find. Amount of work is probably the same, if not easier for the red-out.

And as far as vinyl goes, if you use the proper kind, it will last for years. I've had mine for 4 years now and all is good.

I don't think they're cheesy at all - a very clean and good looking alternative. I'll be happy to supply close-up pics.

yeah its the inexpensive alternative. ive seen some pretty bad applications of the red vinyl that have faded and look really terrible. even if done right, it still is too dark in contrast with the lower red portion. just doesnt look factory IMO.

nothing beats the cleanliness/rarity of the red/clears, but you do pay a hefty sum.

i actually dont mind them either over other red/clears...

here is my official opinion on the red/clear 95/96 tail light issue:

i really dont think red/clears are that great for any 4th gen year. they look plain and i dont see the big deal.
they dont make your car look different at all considering i see late 90's civics everyday with red clears and i dont think, wow those are cool tail lights.

this is also not a pro-altezza post cause i think they are tacky too plus all are made with poor quality.
i dont think there are any really good tail lights available for 4th gens.

personally right now my favorite taillights for 4th gens are the stock
95/96 and i dont understand why 97-99 arent doing 95-96 trunk swaps.

the only other option that i really like seeing is when people do a
black/clear cause i think that is unique and good looking.

anyways...end rant, summary=who cares about red clears, they arent that great

here are my taillights and i think they look great:

i dont mind the orange on a 95/96. the orange on a 97-99 is ugly because its set behind a clear lense which makes it look faded.

i want to see someone with a 95/96 inners with 97-99 red clear outters to have that checkered look. lol might be interesting

i also like kzoosho's (i think its his) tails where he nite-shaded the whole thing. i like the completely blacked out tails with the black car. i know its illegal but who cares it looks cool.
