Blower switch

Just noticed that the only blower speed that works is #4. #1 thru #3 hardly move any air. Has anyone had this happen to their car? If so, what was the problem and what was the fix? I'm assuming it's the blower switch. How hard is it to replace? How does that control panel come out of the dash?

My car is a 95 Maxima SE. Thanks and Happy New Year!!

Joe

99% of the time its a resistor in the blower area.

If you pull down the glove box you will see a plug that goes into the heater case i believe that resistor is connected to it,i don't have a picture to show you but i recently saw a thread with pics the last day or 2 on these boards.

About 20 post down on the first page, there are two posts next to each other about this resistor.

Problem is definitely the blower resistor. It's easy to replace (as long as you're not too big to lie on the passenger seat and look up under the dash, behind the glove box). Resistor assembly is held on by 2 phillips screws and has one multi electrical connector.

I did the one on my 95 SE about 8 years ago. Resistor cost $25 and took about 10 minutes to replace.

Yeah, I located the resistor, took it out, looked at all of the circuit traces, but couldn't see any breaks. Tried using my VOM to test for continuity, but there seems to be a coating on the board. I've seen someone actually solder across the open circuit, but I'll just try to find a replacement part since it's easy to access and replace.

Managed to find a replacement blower resistor at a local parts shop. The board on the new one is smaller than the original. I installed it and it works fine!!! Thanks to all who helped on this one!!
