catalytic converter help??

catalytic converter help??

Once again there is a noise coming from underneath my max. When taking off there is a rattling sound until it swithches to 2 gear, this also happens if in park while racing the engine. A friend of mine seems to believe its my cat converter. Any other opinons??

go under the car with a rubber mallet and tap everything on the exhaust and see if any nuts/bolts are loose or rusted.

there is a good chance it is your heat sheild that covers your cat. when it comes loose, it rattles under certain throttle vibration. go to a muffler shop and they can weld it tight again for free or $5.

Actually, you don't want to park over anything flamable when the cat is hot without a heat shield. Things like spilled gas/oil (it'd have to be a significant amount, but hey), or out here in California, dried grass. Just think of how many fires have started from a cop sitting on the side of the road with his car running (catalytic converters used to not come with heatsheilds). He takes off after a speeder and leaves a little fire behind...
