New Headllights....What a difference!

Ok, b4 you get all excited...these are new glass headlights. Nothing special but boy do they make a difference in the car's looks! My son got these for me as a Xmas gift as my old oem ones were seriously yellow. You'll be able to see an old one in a pic. He picked them up on eBay. They arrived well packed and with bulbs but I elected to transfer my PIAA's to the new set. Lights are ok other than two minor discrepencies. First, one lamp was missing the two metal clips that are on the top of the glass to housing. I actually found one later in the packaging and put it on but the other was missing plus the missing one the area on the glass (mounting area) did not line up with that of the back housing. Oh well, I think they'll hold together. The other discrepancy is that their is no "hood" covering the end of the bulb. You'll see in the picture. This may not be a big deal. Interesting in that at night the end of the PIAA's shows as a blue dot. Kind of neat. Installation was pretty easy once we got to it. The biggest problem we had was putting the plastic grill back in but we figured it out. The cosmetic results are GREAT! The car looks totally different with non-yellowed headlights. Dare I say new. Well, much better anyway. As to the beam pattern....seems ok. I have to adjust it as it seems a bit low. Those PIAA's are white, white. Can't remember the exact ones but think they were the "super white". Sweet. My advice if you've got yellow plastic headlights...pick up a pair of new glass ones and install (easy). BTW, I went through the "polish" the old plastic yellow ones. Worked for awhile but it came back.

Actually, I had the option to buy some AE'd ones for the pops, but I think that they look barfey(sp?) on Sage Mist. Don't get me wrong, I'd totally go for AE'd lights on a white or black Maxima, but not Sage Mist. Plus, then he'd have to do the corners, too. Glad you like them, Dad!

Where did you get the glass headlights? They look amazing!

With sage mist you can go either way. Cleared or AE'd

Here is my sage mist AE'd

i think you made the right choice, however i do agree that sage mist is one of the few colors that can go either way.

The reason the bulb reflector is different is because they are designed after the 95-96 style headlights not the 97-99. The beam pattern is a bit different due to this but nothing major.

Quick update. My son and I went out this evening to adjust the headlights. I thought they were set way too low. Anyway, out to the high school for a blank wall. Did our measurements, taped the wall and then set each light. Fairly easy. Kept thinking that the police would be along soon asking what the heck we were doing but our luck held. Anyway I was right. Both beams were way low. Re-set and now they are much better. I brought along a set of really small ratchets (needed an 8mm) for adjusting them but got there and found that we needed to remove the shield behind the passenger headlamp to get to the adjustment screw. Didn't have a screwdriver but did have my Swiss Army knife on my keychain (small one). Worked like a charm. So bring a small ratchet set with an 8mm socket and a philips head screwdriver. Oh yes, a tape measure and some tape (preferably that blue stuff that you use for masking when painting). Haynes manual will tell you how to adjust them. Overall, the beam pattern is pretty good...very even. Not as good as a set of Hella's (round) that I put on my old Trooper. Those were fantastic. Very sharp pattern with a super sharp cutoff. As to where to buy them....my son told me he got them from eBay. Maybe he'll post the link. Or you could just PM him....zagato27jr. He posted earlier in this thread. Cheers

Yes, they are glass. I think that they are the same ones that one of the guys posted earlier in this thread http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-96...spagenameZWDVW

I'll get my son to post the link. They are nice.

Yep, those are the ones. I bought them from Option Racing - same guys from the link - You can also order from their website, but it's ~ $30 cheaper from their ebay store. Really, it didn't say in the description if they are glass or not, but the lens feels more substantial, and when rapping your knuckles on the lens, old vs new, they make different noises. This information leads me to believe they are glass. Output is much better now that the lenses are aimed correctly. I'll post a picture later.

i have black corners just like those and you can't aim them for $hit. i spent like 15 minutes tryin to adjust the beam pattern and they only move a hair, they suck!!! also, i got mine like almost 2 years ago and the passenger side fills up with condensation and frost in the winter. plus, because they're glass, they look like crap after they get dirty. and you cant clean the inside unless you know how to take them apart!! pita........

The clear ones that I have ARE glass. Aimed them according to the directions in the Haynes manual. Actually pretty easy, especially when you use a 8mm socked and small ratchet. Funny, but the original setting had the beams really low. So, I had to move them a considerable amount and they moved up and down, left and right easily. You do know that you have to aim each headlight separately...ie turn the other one off by pulling the power connector at the bulb? As to water in the lens. Have to wait and see bout that. They seem well sealed. Dirty lens.....had them on for about 2 weeks and have washed the car once or twice. They seem nice and clean. Don't notice any unusual dirt build up and where I park at work is a dirt lot that is either muddy or dusty. Course mine aren't the AE/dark corner versions. Think my son made the right choice with the clear. They look great! Cheers
