Removed dash kit - keep black or paint?

I removed my brushed aluminum dash kit, and I had nearly forgotten that the stock dash isn't really all that bad. Not to mention I wish I still had the 200 bucks I dropped on the kit. Oh well. Anyway, not one to leave things alone for very long, I was wondering if I should let it be, or perhaps paint the pieces instead? If i were to paint, I'd probably do something subtle like a semi gloss black; nothing too flashy. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

It depends on what color your interior/exterior is, but if it's a black interior i think a medium gray would look nice, and at the same time not be too flashy.

Semi-gloss black will look too close to stock. You need something more. Like castlemax said, maybe a med. gray, or graphite color.

I've been thinking about painting my interior this summer. Maybe a graphite color. My wife's 96 max had woodgrain, but I painted it silver. I used SEM products that are designed to bond to plastics. It works very well. Here is a link to the colors available, as I said, I used silver: http://www.levineautoparts.com/semvinandpla.html
I don't know if those prices are good, I got my paint a while ago at a local autobody shop.
Good luck if you do paint it. Take your time, do the prep work, and it will look great.

Those of you that removed their dash kits.

Did you just peel the kit off? Did you heat it first?
Also for the residue that was left from the adhesive, what did you use to remove that?

thanks

No I did not. And it is holding up nicely. I don't know about that site, I just quickly searched for the SEM paint and that is one that came up with the colors on it.

I heated it section at a time with a hair dryer and just pulled it off, using a scraper to get up a corner to grab on to, and for the most part it came off easy, just take your time with the heating, the more you heat it, the less residue left behind, makes it so much easier. I'm a f*cking idiot though and used a scraper to get the residue off which scratched the crap out of everything. I'm sure googone and a rag will clean up the res perfect.

Because I scratched everything pretty bad and its looks dumb, I'm going to repaint it soon. I have beige (tan) interior, what color do you think would look good? I'm def not feeling aluminum/silver with tan interior.

don't do it tan. I did it to try and match my tan/grey leather. The cap looks like the right color, but the parts painted don't match at all. I'm going to be repainting mine a gloss black.

Cool thanks. Looks like I have a project to tackle now. My kit is pretty ugly looking now. (its one of the ebay ones that is plastic, not real aluminum. It looked great for the first two or so years but has become extremely discolored over the past few years)

I would suggest black or if you have a dark exterior car color I would match it to that. I think VW's and BMW's that have tan black combo interiors look very good.

I'd like to do that with my interior. I have a sage mist green Maxima, and now that I think about it, it might look like a good accent color inside amongst the grey.

I agree about the glossy black look. Too much like stock.
