Can you remove the Red thing on the Ebay Red Clears?

i kinda like the all the way clear look, kinda like the homedepot mod. i dont like that mod too much b/c the clear pattern is different from the reverse. then i read the thread on the ebay joints and they say if you only get the outer the red will be slightly different from the inners, so the best bet would be to get the innners too. i remember seeing them on ebay when the red thing wasnt there and it was all the way clear but not anymore. another option would be to do the homedepot to the reverse, i've seen it and i kinda looks tacky

Are you talking about the reflector on the side? I was wondering about these taillights myself. Hard to find the good ones anymore. The pics doesn't do justice. They dont look right. If i'm not mistaken, there should be pics on here by people who have bought these

The reason why that part is left red,is so it imitates the OEM red side marker on the rear lights ...

there should be enough space back there to put a 194 bulb ( on the ebay ones)
without the red "plastic" there, if you were to put a red bulb, it looks really nasty..
also the red plastic tends to keep the light only focused in that area whereas the ones with no red plastic, all you get is a round glow around that area..

Just get the outers with the clear piece. It hardly looks different from the inners, and it's doesn't look bad at all, almost OEM in fact.

This picture actually exaggerates the difference between the two clears.

i would say if you were to buy the ebay red/clears, removing that red piece would be more trouble than its worth.

Yes, you should be able to pop that out. You may need to paint/use light cover to make it look decent though. Otherwise it will look like the DTM does before painting black.

You are definitely right about a red bulb looking nasty under the white reflector. It turns a disgusting pink color. I just put a white 194 bulb in there. My only issue is that light from the 194 escapes into the turn signal part and lights up the whole thing. Other than that i'm really happy with my ebay lights.

wow, thats messed up. i think for a smoke/tint look the best mod is the "dallas" mod from vqpower.com, it looks more real, and natural and overall less expensive

That's exactly how mine look (ha, same car too almost). I'll have to ask my brother what he did or how he found them, cuz he put the clears on before giving the car to me.

here is the photoshop i did but kept the reflector

clear reflector

could i pop it out and bleach it to get the red out? if not i'll do the homepepot for it

i think its just an overall cleaner look w/ it clear nice, and a nice match with the alloys. i guess i'll get them, but mayne 70 something is a little much just for the clear blinker and the reflector is not even clear. i guess i'll have an extra pair if i decide to paint my wheels black, funny how i'm always encouraging others on the org to go black, but i dont:P

Mine are from CE and have the clear insert. No fitment problems and I cannot complain. I found mine on the classifieds here.

Nice Crimson Blaze but corroded to hell muffler and swirl marks FTL!

The first set of red clears I purchased off Ebay didnt have the red reflector, the newer ones I have do. Cant seem to find them without it anymore. I simply swapped lenses.

but the end result will simply be a little "spot" of light, and not the whole side chamber that will be lit...

and if you use your park lights during the day, those little led lights are hardly visible.

But when it gets a little dark out, they look awesome. Really red.

It would be fantastic if we could get someone on here to buy a few set of oem outers and clear them for us. It would be great for people like me who doesnt have the skill/patience to do it ourselves. I think alot of people would buy them, and they would look and fit really nice compared to the Ebay junk. Maybe someone can do this for us. I know I want some.

Cool. Yea I'm holding off on getting Egay lights. I want to see how your led tails come out first.

the new proto boards should be here today, which means i should have some fresh pics tonight. however, that won't do anything about the orange piece just yet. i'm kind of attacking the lights one section at a time. once the brake/marker boards are off and running i'm going to work on having some oem replica clear reflector pieces made, but so far the quotes have been kind of pricey. since they are injection molded i have to pay a couple thousand (at least) to have the molds made.

I was searching earlier today, and it appears that they still sell the outers without the red reflectors. I'm not sure why they don't have them on fleabay since they sell other stuff on fleabay. http://www.k2motor.com/ltmax97rpwks.html
