Can someone enlighten me to the "variable intake" line in the classifieds?

At the top of the 4th gen classifieds section it says:

"The highly sought after variable intake may be a click away"

Can someone enlighten me? Is that just a quip or is this a part that everyone drools over, and if so why?

the variable intake manifold from the 2000 maxima aka 00VI provides much more top end power as compared to the stock intake manifold

The MEVI is another alternative. It was an intake manifold used on Middle Eastern VQ30s that has dual runners like the 00vi. It shows gains over a USIM at certain points in the power curve. An 00vi is much more beneficial.

True, but when "The highly sought after variable intake may be a click away" was written, I believe it was referring to the MEVI.

True. However the variable intake is found in more places than the Middle East.. ie Australia. (for the OP's benefit). It's always kind of bothered me that the org refers to it as the "MEVI". This would insinuate that it was only offered in the Middle East, when in fact, it was offered in many places overseas.

The term "MEVI" has stuck and is socially accepted here on the org, because that's the source where the first variable intakes came from back in the day...

Yes,I know

Yup yup, back before the 00VI swap was thought of only a handfull of people were running the MEVI and it really was a " sought after" item.

OK, so for those that seem to have gotten the 00VI, what was the price and performance gains? Was it well worth the money to find one?

I ask because I've seen multiple 5th gens in the junkyards here.

Neither the MEVI or the 00VI actually have a dual runner setup, but they have designs that mimic the same effect (using resonance/constructive interference to jam more air into the combustion chamber).
