Has anybody weighed the R34 headlights?
Please no bashing about weight reduction.
I'm looking for the weight of them with both bulbs, harness and mounting bracket.
My 97-99 headlights i ae'd years ago when there were no other headlight options available have seen better days. So I'm looking to replace them but I'm not going to add unnecessary weight to the car.

you have got to be kidding... you can eat a lighter breakfast to help save the weight, or thinner pants, no socks, and slippers.
but in all seriousness you will not notice any difference between the two different headlights powerwise.
I have been eyes the R34s myself but Cant get them till I can retro them, because the output is horrific.

If its strickly a 1/4 car, maybe look into fabricating a light cover to reduce the weight, but still keep the same air flow. Depend on your materials you can save more weight than the R34.
Ask for some R34 people to chime in and see if the plastic on the housing feels cheap and thin versus stock lights. If so it just might be lighter but who knows by how much.

The car still needs headlights to drive to the track and look like a maxima or there wouldn't be a point in drag racing a maxima. I know the aftermarket 97-99 headlights are heavier then oem. So the only option for me is r34's or oem 97-99.

it would all depend on how your fabricate them. If you fabricate some that can easily be bolted in, then you just swap them out at the track, and the look and design of them are up to you base on your materials and how you style it.
just an idea for you.
just an idea for you.

I would guess they are around 4 lbs a piece, they are fairly light. The aftermarket maxima lens with the glass are heavy, but i would say the say the stock 97-99 with the plastic lens is around the same weight as the r34s.

Do you clear out your glovebox, the armrest compartment, and coin tray before hitting the track? Do you put enough gas for one run at a time so you dont get weigh down?
You're more a weigh weinnie than the guys on the mtb forum that I frequent.

You guys are morons. He asked a simple question and he even asked that you don't bash.
I'm with you 100% fanatic. I've gotten rid of anything on my car that isn't needed for structural integrity, comfort/convenience or safety. If I see a little metal bracket under the hood that I feel could go (or that I can substitute with a zip tie), it's gone. I don't care if it's 2 ounces. I do this repeatedly and, trust me, it adds up. I have a box of removed parts and I can barely lift it.
Luckily for you, I weigh everything that comes on/off my car. Here is the answer to the question you asked....
3lb 7.4oz. That's the light, the harness, the bulbs and the bracket.

The 97-99 headlight,corner light,bulbs and bolts are 3lb 15.2oz
So r34s are about a pound weight savings. The look better and will clean up the engine bay as well.

Oh, that's a good idea. I often go back and add the answer to my post number one, after I get the answer (to help readers/searchers in the future). So perhaps you might add the weights of the '97-'99 OEM lights and the R34 lights to post #1. ?
Do you know the weights of the '95/'96 glass lights? It's been so long and I didn't have as accurate a scale as I do now, but I do recall about a pound per headlight more than the plastic lights. ?
So how much does your car weigh fanatic?

I'm not sure the exact weight of the oem 95-96 but it's around 2 pounds per headlight more then the oem 97-99 ones.
The last car weighed 2450 without me. It still had alot of weight that could have been taken out but i didn't have time before the drag strip. That was the last race of the season and i stripped that car to start over with a better shell.

Minus the gas thing that is how I DD, owners manual and insurance only in the glovebox, nothing in the ashtray or push out drawer. Use those on a "per-trip" basis. I do have stuff in the armrest though. Coins in plastic make the car sound like sh't over bumps.

Same for me, but I do keep some CDs in the armrest; as well as two screwdrivers, a 10mm wrench, and a small roll of electrical tape in the glovebox for emergencies. I keep a scraper/brush in the trunk in the winter, as well.
