Very simple question on headlights

im looking to replace my headlight lightbulbs for a brighter and better lightbulb.

Are there any Xenon or Halogen direct replacements that you folks would reccomend? I want a brighter headlight that has low and high beam functionallity. Im just looking for a good pair to use out on the street, just as long as they are not insanely bright and its okay if they are illegal as long as they are a safe brightness. Im just looking to pick up a pair at a local auto store like checkers, autozone, pepboys etc....

Also can i upgrade to better foglights too? I have the stock lightbubls for my headlights and only 1 working stock foglight lightbulb.

Suggestions anyone?

Silvania Silverstars, or Silverstar EXTRA's. Both are great, the regular silverstars look more white, the extras just give your more output, but in a stocker color. And the foglights are H7, and you can get a nice hyper white bulb from Autozone in the foglight section. Don't waste your money on any of those cheap boy racer blue bulbs because the light output is worse than stock and you won't see a thing.

In order from cheaper to more expensive, you could get the fake hid halogens in 9004, or do the 9007 upgrade with fake hid halogens, or get a retrofit.

If you want better output, stay away from tinted bulbs. Many will suggest you do the 9004 to 9007 conversion and get the Sylvania Xtremevision.

hmmm i think i will just snag a pair of Sylvania Silverstars...

but i thought they were halogen based not xenon. Some sites contradict eachother....The official Sylvania site is down at the moment so i figured i would just ask.

And I would assume Sylvania is a fairly universial brand so what store would i have best luck picking them up at? i tried searching online but no luck.

oh yeah and these bulbs have high and low beams correct?

**** okay now for this question: Silverstar Ultra, or just the regular silverstar. Ultras run 50$ for 2 while silverstars are 20$ each.

If you get 9004's or do the 9007 conversion, the bulb will have both low and high beams. I don't know if the deal is still going on or not, but pepboys had a special where you get a $15 mail in rebate on the silverstars, and a $20 rebate on the ultras. And i'm pretty sure they are halogen, not xenon.

Well i think i will end up running over there in a while i just need opinons about which headlight to get. Im staying 9004.

Should i get silverstar ultra or just silverstar? What is the main difference? I just want a very clean white bulb that is bright.

and I would assume this is a good foglight too?

Thanks a bunch guys for helping me out!

I say retro and screw halogen lol. The ultras are they way to go if you are staying halogen. And i agree with the 9007 upgrade also.

Um idunno, i went HID from a kit and i couldnt be happier. I highly doubt a halogen ca come close to my output and its totally legal. And ye with bi xenon i have low and high beam but to be honest i hardly use high beam because output is so good. Dont have working fogs so i cant comment there.

Those foglights are 100W and im pretty sure the ones in our cars are 55W. I don't know if that will hurt anything though.

Well i picked up a pair of silverstar ultra headlights and they are lookin good. Easy easy install, even for a beginner like me haha... Plus i get a 15-20$ mail in rebate from pepboys. Making the price paid 30$

So now onto the foglights, will this Silverstar; H3; 100 Watt; Halogen work??? As castlemax pointed out, OEM specs for the needed bulb is 55 watts. But according to the checkers site it will "fit" my car. Insight anyone?

Funny because i passed inspection with them, so if they are illegal its the ignorance of the inspection place and not my liability, but i wouldnt foresee any problems if it not rediculously bright. Even all my friends with there little civics have HID kits and pass inspection and never got tickets, so again no issue. fact of the matter is HID's are brighter and safer for all cars, and personally i think they should be standard on every car by law.

As for aftermarkets being illegal, my philosophy is....It aint illegal until someone writes you a ticket.

Good choice on the Silverstar Ultras. The main concern with the higher wattage foglights would be the additional current through the wiring. If the gauge is not thick enough could overheat or burn the wiring. Same thing with the higher wattage bulb it may cause the plastic housing of the bulb to melt. I can't make any reccomendations but that is what you need to be concerned about.

Thats not true. Thats like saying killing someone isnt illegal till you get caught. The bottom line is anything that is put onto your car without a carb sticker or isnt oem is illegal.Just because you passed your inspection doesnt stop it from being illegal. Also if you do get a ticket they arent going to go after the person that inspected it . You get that ticket all by yourself.

For foglights, I'd get something yellow. I just got JDM Yellow Luminics H3 bulbs, and I love them. Better output in rain/snow/fog and they make a good contrast with my HID's.
Visit ebay, they have them for around $28 shipped.

hmm well looking around i found these: http://www.jaycorptech.com/showprodu...?productid=139

They were rated at 68 watts?? But that would not be too much extra current. Im sure that 100 watts is pushing it, but i did a search here and some guy had been using his 100 watt fogs without problems for a while.

Well i ended up getting the 55watt silverstar fogs. And man were those damn screws a pain to get off. They were rusted on and i was using a damn screw driver. I ended up stripping them. But then i realized i could use a 10mm socket in conjunction with my ratchet.

But a huge thanks to evreyone who helped. I'm very very pleased with my lights and its a huge difference from traditional headlights and the one working foglight.
