Convince me to keep this thing!

Hey guys. I have this '95 Maxima GXE 5sp that I just started driving. I'm not sure if I want to keep it or just trade it off for something else, possibly of a lesser caliber. Up to this point I've driven pretty much Honda Civics and a few trucks. I just gave my fiance my 93 Civic coupe and in turn she gave me her Maxima. My problem with it is getting used to such a large 4 door car. I know they can be pretty quick, and I love the way some of the ones I've seen here look. I just can't get excited about this thing.

It needs work too, the shocks all seem blown (or is it supposed to handle like a beached whale?), needs a clutch master cylinder, tune up wouldnt hurt it, and I put my OBD scan tool on it and it came up with a failed knock sensor. The front suspension makes some strange sounds and it wears front tires unevenly. Its been almost as reliable as one of my hondas, so I know its gonna be a good car. I just need some motivation I guess. Maybe I'm just *****ing because the car needs work. I dunno. I also hate tan interiors, theyre hideous. How hard is a full interior swap? I've done it in Hondas and a Mazda, but not in a Maxima.

I'd like to mod it a little, mainly suspension and interior. I also want to throw some 5-spoke wheels from a newer maxima on it.

What might this thing be worth in the current shape? It has 190k miles but a newer engine that my friend put in when he still owned it.

Here are some pics if anyone even cares, lawl.

SE-- yea nice car. These maxima's do drive like trucks but it was designed to be a family sedan.- a drop is a must. Some handling mods should help. Love the max-nice color-I suggest u keep it for a while and let it grow on ya, resale value is prolly 2500 since it looks clean. GL w/ the maxima.

Thanks man. I'm looking up the parts I need for the front end right now. KYB AGX's, strut mounts w/ bearings, and some lowering springs. That should get it handling decent I suppose.

look like it in real good shape. Somewhat clean interior from what i see & a new engine. The car run's alot better with a new knocksensor. I'd keep it & fix it IMO.

Word. How much would I expect to pay for a full black interior? If I decide to keep it, I'm willing to dump some money in it.

I would do the knock sensor because your losing your performance that you want and the blown struts to help out better with the steering and Then some new tires. I will tell once you have done everything to your car you will be glad that have done it. I am sure once you get everything done you will also never think about selling a nice Max with a new engine.

I agree, also dont worry too much abt the interior as yet. Work on the struts and sensor first then later after the ride is up to shape then u can change the interior

Thanks guys, as soon as I sell my truck I think I'm gonna put some money into the maxima. Tokico blues, H&R springs, new strut mounts and bearings, knock sensor, clutch master cyl, 97-99 5 spoke wheels, and new tires. That should get it back up to par. After that I'd REALLY like to put exhaust on it and definitely a short shifter. My truck would basically pay for all that, haha.

Thanks for the input.

Haha, I like it because it ISN'T a civic or a truck. It doesn't have a ricer feel to it, and that is refreshing.

I was never into modding until I got my Max, now its a slow building addiction. Keep it, its too much fun, plus no where else will you find a community of psycho enthusiasts like this place.

Haw haw. I think after I get the wheels and suspension done it will be pretty fun. Then I'll get it in my body shop and repaint it, and redo the interior.

now that you got the new knock sensor, keep it happy with 91 octane. and you will like the way the car handles and looks a LOT more once you get it dropped a bit. these are very nice cars and can be made into beautiful machines. you got a nice 5spd too

I felt the same way about mine when i first bought it. Coming out of a 200sx se-r the maxima felt floaty and ungainly...and i started looking for another 200sx. Over time they grow on you as you get used to the size and handling. Suspension work ( springs, struts, rearsway bar ) will bring the handling closer to smaller car levels.

I love tan/white insides, very classy. I'd go with tokico Illumina(performancepeddler.com with maxima discount code.) A bigger drop :P once you start you won't stop. Progressive(cattman)springs cheaper then H&R but with a great lookin drop. Y pipe is huge, go headers if bling is there. Then get a 5th gen clutch. Tint, rims, lights, ground effects......Turbo!

Tokico's handling is great but dont forget to put a good tire size such as
225/45-17, 235/40-17, 225/40-18 or like me 245/40-18.

I'f you put a VQ35 in it, never know, here's a strut bar that will still fit.
A Vibrant 1999 altima front strut bar!
In this pic I had my VQ30DE...
