Well my 95 GLE is in the shop now. I really dont know what happened and was wondering if anybody has had problems with the battery, starter, and if you altenator cuaght on fire??? Yeah it was weird, i was drving the car and i smelt smoke. Next thing i knew my lights were dimming and i was losing power quickly, especially when i came for a stop, plus when i stopped my ABS light came on, but when i started driving everything was fine. WEll i parked it that night and got up the next day and jumped it with my roomate, it started then the engine did not sound right! i knew something was up, next thing i know the altenator coils are heating up fast, bright RED then boom a litttle fire! i was like what the F***! turned the car off and had it towed today. Well what do you think happened any advice, places i can get new altenators, especially nissan OEM for cheaper than the dealer, cuase he will beat any price so... any help would be great, also any of you mechanics out there, could you please gimme a idea of what happened!

That sounds exactly like what happened to my dad's 89 last week. We got it back today and all it needed was a new alternator but all the wiring is screwed up. You didn't try to start it again did u?
