Brake question

my brakes are beggining to sqeak. i checked them this weekend and they do need replacing but i noticed that the inside brake pads are more worn than the outer ones. why does this happen? another thing that i noticed was that the shims were all messed up the one pushing the inner pad and the ones that the pads rest on. do they sell those seperately at the dealer or as a set?

usually you get new shims with new brake pads. Sometimes though the pad has an intergral shim that is "bonded" to the new pad.

I would assume that the inner pad is dragging on the disc and that is why the inner is more worn that the outer pads.

Make sure you inspect and lube the sliders on your calipers when doing a brake job.
Use lots of brake clean to clean off the surfaces. Get you disc either new or cut. Oh, and don't forget to bleed your old fluid out.
hope that helps.

as JSMax said, make sure the caliper pins are free, if that caliper is not fully returning to relaxed position your inner pads will wear more.

also check for uneven wear on the pads, which would indicate just one pin holding up.

And have you had the wheel ends off at all? If the wheel ends are not properly torqued they can loose the endplay which helps the calipers release fully

can i get these shims at the dealer? are they just called brake shims and what kind of grease do you use for the caliper pins or sliders?

And the torque on the slider pins is not all that important, but the pins themselves being smooth and properly lubed with a proper caliper/brake lube (sil-glide, etc.) is extremely important, the boots need to be in good condition as well.
