Tranny Cooler Questions...

Could someone tell me all about these ? I mean, what is their purpose (I do drive harshly with my auto tranny)? How much do they cost and from where? How much should installation be?
Thanks,
Cyrus

it helps keep your tranny running cooler...it mounts to your radiator (the most common place) and instead of your fluid running through the radiator to cool down it runs through this auxillary unit. It helps to extend the life of your tranny by not letting it heat up as much.
The cost probably averages ~ $100 depending on the type you get and installation should be pretty easy if you are mechanically inclined. If you take it somewhere...I would guess they wouldn't charge you more than an hours labor.....but that's from an honest shop

this reminds me.....I need to get one.

I am looking into getting one, but I am not really mecanically inclined, so I will have to get a shop to put it on. I just hope they don't charge me an arm and a leg.

I installed the B&M from http://www.Jegs.com The part No. is 130-70266 and is $59.99. I like the B&M better than the ones at AutoZone and Pep Boys because it is a stacked plate design instead of fin and tube. It is more rugged and, by it's design, is self regulating. When the fluid is cold, the fluid bypasses the cooler.

I hvae the Hayden 404....

I put it in awhile back before summer hit and I'm hoping it'll prolong the life of my tranny as the others would say. At least it gives me a little bit of confidence when I decide to drive hard. I got mine from a local Pep Boys for either $50 or $40, and an additional return hose for $10, can't remember the total. I believe Autozone now has them also for the same price. The install was pretty simple even for someone who's isn't really mechanically inclined. The How2 instructons are in the maxima.org Shop Talk.
