Low fuel light ever come on for you?
The fuel pump is always sucking fuel from the very bottom of the tank.
This idea of staying away from the low tank levels is basically a myth. Run as low as you want, about the worst you can do is get fuel starve and engine knock, or maybe you'll burn up the fuel pump if it runs dead dry for while. But there is no gunk involved.
Usually you'll get fuel starve while cornering hard or starting from a stop long before you empty the tank to the point of damaging the fuel pump.

My light comes on all the time. It doesnt however stay on till im below the E marker. The guage goes a bit below E for me. However even after driving for 20+ miles below E I have yet to be able to fill up more then 16.5 gallons. Apperently after below E i still have 1-2 gallons left in her. But I get worried driving on below E with the light on, so I never push it. Yet to run out of gas, and planning to keep it that way. The light starts to go on and off (mainly on turns) once im below 1/8th tank left, but doesnt stay on till well below E... and even then it turns off and on once in a while. But yeah the low fuel light def works, so if it isnt turning on / off... somethings not working.
I have yet to see mine at all. I have driven several times to until the end of the needle is about a mm away from the E and have not seen it. When I fill up at that point though I can only get ~13.5 gallons in her. I guess I should't worry about running out when I get that low anymore, seeing as I should have like 4 gallons left.
yeah the light won't go on until you can see a gap between the E line and the needle and the needle is below the line.... i think most of you think it comes on when it hits the line
Gunk at bottom of tank
Its impossible to have gunk cause when you pull up for a refill it take jsut about two to three minutes to fill up to a good 16 gals .16 gals in3 minutes so imagine the force at with gas is poured in... really fast to give a good cleaning to ur tank so if any gunk gets there by any chance it is surely stired up during refill and ends up in the filter so no worry if ur low on fuel about getting gunk in ur system its never there
boy arent we glad we dont know exactly how much fuel is in the tank when the light comes on.....otherwise we'd have a lot of people keeping track and running the tank down to the last drop, haha
^^ I'm guessing you mean aftermarket.... I think most of you don't realize that the needle has to be BELOW the E line for the light to come on. I have to see a gap between the needle and the line before it comes on. I'm sure most of your guys light is working fine, you just never bring it down that low
Im one of those people who only likes to fill up half a tank at a time, so what i've started doing is fill up all the way then when i get down to half a tank i fill up again. Better to have too much fuel than too little."
Do you have white faced gauges by any chance? On my SE the light is so faint through the white face(There's no clear spot for the light) that it's almost impossible to tell if it's on.
I wait till Im close to E then I fill up, I found that it is good to let it run down to almost empty then fill it up again, I got around 370 miles on one tank going to the mountains once 65-70 mph on cruise control lol it was $50 to fill it back up at $3 a gallon
Okay guys, were going off topic here, we are all stating that the needle has to be below E and between what ever to see the light, well here is news !!!!. I drove mine till it stopped in the middle of the road. AND STILL NO LIGHT CAME ON!!!! had to walk my sorry butt to the gas station to get some gas and then refill it again. SO WHATS THE PROBLEM.?? anyone here got this looked into? has anyone taken it to a dealer or a mechanic who said if its the light problem or the a sensor????
Mine light never comes on either. I was trying to see how many miles I could eek out of a tank before it came on... but ran out of gas at ~ 424 mi
on the tank. Luckily, I was able to coast downhill into the gas station
Guess I need to check the low fuel bulb!

This too happened to me a while back with no light coming on so I don't even let it go under a quarter anymore.
This seems to be a common issue, hopefully we can pin point the problem.
I've owned the car for about 70k miles and have never seen the light (don't know about previous owner) - and I've run out of gas once.
I've had the ORIGINAL cluster out to do work w/ gauge lights and replaced the bulb but that didn't help.
I than bought an SE cluster from eBay and the light never worked in that one either.
My conclusion? There must be a sensor that's busted in the tank or somewhere before the cluster...

I've been told by the dealership that there is a separate switch for the low fuel light on the fuel pump / fuel sending unit. They say it's fastened with cable ties and has been known to slide down from it's original position. Then the light doesn't come on anymore.
Can't verify this, haven't looked at it myself.
