VB mod vd Cattman TCU

VB mod vs Cattman TCU
Anyone have the TCU? How has it worked out for you? The page about it is here in case you're wondering. This kind of sounds like the switch my brother's '90 SE had from the factory (the power-comfort switch next to the cigarette lighter). Does anyone know where the actual TCU mounts and how it's installed (I already shot an email out to Cattman)?
Are the gains comparable to Don's/Level 10's VB mod? What about getting both?

Brian's Answer:
Hey Dan,
The 3-mode transmission controller upgrade adds a daughter circuit board to the stock TCU. This can be done to the one you have now if you send it in for upgrade (and are without car in the meantime) or you can put down a deposit and have an upgraded one sent to your for sapping with the old one.
The TCU goes up front against the passenger side of the firewall, sort of under the center console. It simply provides the software necessary to have 3 transmission modes: 1 - stock settings, 2 - performance (shift points overhauled), 3 - traction (locks into second gear).
I see no reason why the VB couldn't be used with the TCU.
Forgot one answer -- you can install the little micro-switch anywhere you want within reach of the shielded wire.
Remember, its just telling the transmission what to do, no reason the valve body work should get in the way of that.

I think the daughterboard just tells the transmission WHEN to shift. I don't think anything electronic in the max is capable of telling it HOW to shift, but I'm not an expert mechanic, so I could be wrong. It would appear from Mr. Catts' email, to be the case.
Stock settings
Sport - "Shift points overhauled" .. Later shift points?
Traction - "Locks into second gear" .. No squealing around in first?
I don't really see how later shift points would benefit a 4th gen w/o the variable intake, but whatever Cruising around at 2/3rds throttle and having the computer not shift until 5.5k RPM wouldn't be all that bad in some situations. You could race ricer's and not step on it entirely and still be in the powerband for when you decide to

You can't honestly be serious. Are you telling me that Cattman peformance is selling something that is completely useless? Someone would have called the Better Business B.
