replcing dust cover on a 5spd tranny

the dust boot in my car is all messed up, its torn and its just dangaling around. i wanted to know how easy or hard it is to replace it. what happens if i just take it off, its not even covering the hole anyways.

If you're talking about the dust boot on the clutch fork, I'd get another and replace it. Just unbolt the intake snorkel and clutch slave cyl, and replace the boot.
