New axle seal is leaking...

I just got done putting a new clutch in so I replaced the axle seals. Well the one on the passenger side is leaking all the Royalpurple I bought onto the road.. Pisses me off... I'm going to try to replace it without taking everything out again..

You sure you had a passenger side axle seal? The driver side seal opening is a little bigger

I had the same problem on an Eagle Talon and it turned out I did not completely snap the axle back in tight. Check to make sure the passenger axle is snug against the seal. All it takes is an 1/8th inch or less for the fluid to seep out. Unfortunately, you may have to disassemble that side if the axle clip is binding or got popped out of place during installation and preventing you from properly seating it.

Good luck.

i wasn't asking a question.. i was just stating a problem. >_>

this'll be saturdays project. that axle is actually bolted to the side of the block so the chances of it not being in all the way are slim. i did rub some of the grease off of the seal though... i'll try pulling the axle out and putting some silicone grease on there and see what happens before i go spending more money..

The best thing to do when you have a problem is to throw money at it

Grease won't help. The seal was pre-greased, and once the axle is installed it's oil lubed.

Dave is SO right! I got the wrong side seal from Nissan (I should have known better than to get it from the stealership, but they are the only place that had one at the time. Grrrrrrr) The drivers side is about 0.06 larger than the passangers - enough to make it leak, and make you think, "did I get the axle in all the way?" Then ... now, here's the fun part. You have to drop the cross member to even think about getting room to do it. (don't forget to support the engine / trans while doing this) I didn't wanna mess with it - had no time really, cost me $127.43 for a friend of mine to do it at his shop. I tried to get that money outta Nissan .... Yea - OK is all I got from them
