which muffler would you guys recommend?

I am looking to buy just a muffler for now, i've been looking into the apexi ws2 and some types of magnaflow mufflers. Im not looking for a certain sound just looking for a nice looking polished muffler for the back of the max. I dont want to buy just a tip because i do want to hear a difference just doesnt matter as much as how it looks. I dont really want anything bigger then a 4" tip but that is what the apexi ws2 is. Basically what im asking is what certain type of magnaflow muffler looks good on the max?

yes i know i've read the exhaust thread over.. I just wanted to know if anyone had a specific one like the Magnaflow 14825 or the 14809 that they would specifically say is nice. The exhaust thread points you to the brands...greddy, borla, flowmaster, and more...but just says a universal muffler.

the exhaust thread points to everything that people recommend. That means you'll get the same feedback here. Just going to be people posting different mufflers. How does that help anything? It's still your call anyway. Everyone will say "oh get this one its the best". I say get greddy. So already you have conflicting opinions on mufflers and it's still going to be your choice. If it's just a muffler then any universal or specific 4th gen muffler works. Way to many to chose from. Should just keep reading the exhaust thread and make your choice from there.

if ur keeping the stock resonator and y pipe.. u can put a fart can one and it will sound decent...

but if ur changing the y pipe or resonator i suggest u dont get either... get a greddy sp2 catback and call it a day.. trust me i went through a lot of combinations.. and right now im with a 33 inch magnaflow resonator and a stock muffler.. maxima exhaust sucks..

If you are looking to buy something local I am selling an entire cat back with a high flow cat, with a magnaflow muffler and resinator.

not to change the subject...but are there any muffler's that require no welding ....not like a catback ...just like a "a shinny shinny fart can" clamp or something?

^ You're referring to a tip, right? There are some out there that just need to be screwed onto a stock tip. But if it were me I'd just take the max to a muffler shop and ask them to weld on a new more aggressive tip.

And for the OP, if you're just looking for a polished look you can't go wrong with the Magnaflow. My only concern would be if you're running an aftermarket Y-Pipe, take it from me... A magnaflow paired with an aftermarket y/b/hi-flow cat is not a good sound, I'm about to get an OE replacement. But if you're running stock y and b pipes then you might want to go the Magnaflow route.

Just get any random generic muffler with a 2.25 or 2.5" inlet pipe, cut off your axleback right by the muffler, get an exhaust clamp, clamp it on.

Of course, with all that work might as well just weld it on

I would suggest looking at a dynomax 17747. It looks stock, and it pretty quiet. I just got that muffler along with a warpspeed y pipe put on, sounds great. At highway speeds, cannot hear anything at all, just while going through the gears. Im greatly satisfied, you can get those mufflers from advance auto parts for 59.99

Possibly, I would rather sell everything together. I am not sure if I have a picture from the rear, its nice and shiney with a shiney tip. Why would you not want a B pipe and resinator too if you are replacing the muffler?

Just a quick clarification - did anyone ever state in the end that they have a decent sound from adding a muffler only? I'm thinking of adding one of the straight-through Magnaflows (probably 14827) and want to know how it'll sound. I'd be adding it to an otherwise bone-stock exhaust. Is this a bad idea? I want a ton that's low, not extremely loud (but louder than stock) and totally not ricey, tinny or raspy.

I know my post count is low, but I'm only a noob to posting. The site is great, has everything I need so I haven't had to post any questions - except this of course. As such, I'm sorry if I've missed this exact question in the other 4G exhaust threads, but it seems like the two other guys I saw post got ignored. If there is a thread or posts specific to muffler-only work, I'd be glad to be redirected.

Thanks, vets!

Snypa, do you think that's even the case for using the stock resonator?

Also, guys, is $250 installed a bit steep?

no one's mentioned the obvious best choice. NO muffler. That's what I've got. Just strip it all down no cat no muffler, just straight ypipe to a huge double mouth tip. Sure it doesn't look all that pretty but let me tell you, it sounds like a medieval demon. There's no reason to restrain the Maxima from her true growl.
