When i first heard it was about 2 months ago and back then i would hear it when i'm driving 50 mph and over but it goes away when i tap on the brake. i don't always hear it..it's like on and off thing and it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. so i checked down the car to see if any of the parts were loose/worn out and even took out the passenger side tire to check but didn't really find anything. what i noticed today was that i can hear that metal screeching sound even when i'm going around 25-30mph but goes away when i tap on the brake and it comes back on after about a min or so. i know i should've taken it to a mechanic to get that checked out sooner but i just didn't have time since i work more than 12hrs a day 6 days a week. is this a common problem with maximas? i'd appreciate it if anyone has any answers to what i'm going through. thanx

Checked to see if the pads are dragging, or if the dust shield is rubbing on the rotor?

definitely the "squealer" which is just a way of letting you kno ur pads are getting low. wont hurt to keep driving it for a couple hundred more miles but definitely consider getting ur pads checked/replaced. i've had that problem numerous times.
