dont get ripped off if your a 95

about 3 weeks ago i went in for a smog check and had to pay an extra 25 bucks for something called a fuel evap test. ending up spenging 70 bucks to fail a smog test. smog tech told me to evap test was something new for 2008.

i went back in yesterday to a test only station, paid only 42 bucks which included the fuel evap test and certification. The fuel evap test applies to all 1995 and older cars. dont get ripped off.!!

IMO, you didn't get ripped off, you just didn't know about the new EVAP test and associated fees. Hence you paid the additional $25. Had you known, you would have price shopped before choosing the smog station.

Most places do charge $20-$30 extra for the new lame EVAP test...

$42 OTD is a great deal. Glad you passed on the second time around.

thanks, yeah. my NOX was 6 ppm away from not passing. i think the smog tech helped me out a lil somehow..i did see some white smoke blowing out of my exhaust at low rpms. think i really do need a new cat.

anyway.."ripped off" i guess is too strong phrase. but for those of you who need a smog check, definately check around and may not have to pay extra for the evap test.

Also, always go to a "Pass or Don't pay" shop. Coupons are plentiful in the newspaper/Pennysaver. This would have saved you $70.
