'00VI vs. USIM - Video Comparison

Here you go guys...

USIM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG-Tzw8Ct8E

'00VI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH7Iv24by94

These two videos are just some clips of driving with the USIM and 00VI. The 00VI pulls a lot harder and sounds a lot more refined as compared to the USIM. Just thought this would be helpful for those of you who are debating whether or not to do the IM swap.

Christ, you drive that thing hard. Nice comparison vid. I could actually see the difference in the video. And it looks like changing the IM cleared your CEL too. Hehe.

i knew there was a difference when the 1-2 shift in the second video knocked the camera out of place a few times

O2s FTL...I had those changed right after the 00vi swap. I usually dont drive the car this hard, but it sure as hell is fun doing so.

The clutch feels fine and doesn't seem to slip at all. Why do you say that?

00vi's are USIM (since they come on US cars). MEVI vs USIM would be the proper comparison.

Because you beat the **** out of it whenever you shift and it's not grabbing very hard (you're not chirping second, oh noes).

I'd like to get a DEK but if it means I'm going to drive like that everywhere I go I might rather not. I drive aggressively enough as it is.

Not relative to the VQ30DE, they aren't.

In any case, that's why I proposed A32USDMIM, but that never caught on

Haha I know, I only chirped on one or two of the runs in the clip. It is because I slip the clutch probably... .

I usually dont drive this way and when I do I need to get in the habit of releasing the clutch faster rather than making it more comfortable for the passengers. . I am able to chirp 2nd every time, it is just a matter of me letting off the pedal quick enough.

I partially agree on the clutch thing. I definitely am not saying rush out and go replace it, because obviously it still handles normal driving just fine, but if you are in to running at the track or whatever, it would help. It's slow to grab on the shifts.

That sounds nice up top. I think you are hanging on to the clutch a little long like everybody stated. Are you tuned on 5th gen injectors?

It was about 50% throttle up to about 100, then WOT from there on. I know it was incredibly slow.

I am almost 99% sure it is because I am not releasing the clutch fast enough. When the roads get dry again, I will go out and make sure that it is my driving style and not the clutch.

Thanks man. We did some basic a/f tuning when the afc was installed but I have yet to take it to a dyno to fine tune it. That will come in the next few months probably. I am running 5th gen injectors tho.

00VI > USIM FTWx2304350435

I loved the swap and HIGHLY recommend it to any 4th gen.. from 5000rpm and up, the hp increases rather then fallin on its face like the USIM

Haha, mine isnt that bad yet...but after going out and having another person drive it, I am beginning to believe that maybe the clutch is on its way out.

Thats funny I was making a vid like these on my way from the track. With me having it hooked up to a switch I forget to close my VI once the revs drop below 4800 rpm so when I finally do close it the car pulls like crazy. Its nice know all your hard work didnt go to waste. Also here are some dyno numbers to get a better understanding of where you actually gain power with the VI.

I30drv (99 auto I30)-DEK swap, Cattman exhaust, Budget Y-pipe
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=551722

Ajcool2(98 auto max)-USIM, Budget y-pipe, intake
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=349496

At 6500 I was making 115hp and he is making 177hp a 62hp difference up top.
