Need Help!!! My Dash guages are possesed
Yesterday I was driving down the road when my gauges on my 99SE started going crazy. They would spike up and down and then get stuck at 110 mph and hot on the temperature gauge and fuel went to zero. Also I noticed when I coasted to a stop while still in gear the car would stall out and I would have to start it again. (Manual Trans) It has come back on a couple of times but never for long. Now they are stuck at the bottom, no readings from any of them. Although the Seatbelt lights and ABS lights work on the dash. Any Ideas???

I would check the connections at the battery, try pulling/moving the cables. Check that the negative cable from the battery has a solid and clean connection to the body/frame of car. Also do the same with your alternator connections. Why did you get new battery and alternator? Were you having a similar problem before? It could be that an unstable 12 VDC is causing your problems. Try moving some of the cables while the car is running and see if it happens.
If you have a voltmeter measure the voltage at the battery terminals and than measure the voltage from the positive terminal to a good ground such as the engine or body of the car. Your readings should be very similar, if not youn have a connection problem.

I replaced the alt because it went bad on me and as for the battery, I got a steal on a red top. Everything is tight.......I took the lead off the battery and let the ecu reset itself and the gauges now work. I will keep an eye on it for the next few days and keep you guys posted. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
I will keep fuse 40 in mind Nopike............good lookin out

Sorry, but from looking at the wiring diagrams in the FSM the ECU has nothing/or very little to do with the fuel, temp, or speed gauges. The only thing really common to those guages is 12VDC and ground provided by your battery/alternator that is why I would suspect something there. I could be wrong, let us know what happens.
